Flannery's Place
Eddy Duhan

It would be sweet to cross that wave
And visit lovely Ireland
To see the colours of Flannery's place
In her peacock garden
To hear the stories that she tells
That you can't hear from anyone else
The story that was never written

To hear the blackbird clap its wings
To the rhythm of the time
Drive home the point that Greenleaf brings
When a good man is hard to find

I have felt all her words
Like a burning in the cotton
And I wish for just one more
And search for one lost or forgotten
Of the heroine in the slave
Of her redemption in the grave
The story that was never written

It would be sweet to cross that wave
And visit lovely Ireland
